Schedule

Practice presentations will be at Pine Room (BH 3526).

Today the class will be divided in two blocks from 12:30 to 2:10 and from 2:10 to 3:30. Each team will present and provide feedback to other teams as follows:

Your theam should work on their project in our usual clasroom outside of their โ€œpresentation blockโ€.

Due when? Presentations will happen during next class on Tuesday 2/17.

How to submit: Add slides to Week 7 - Faculty Reviews DRAFT 2 shared folder.

Instructions

๐ŸŽฏ Prepare one or two slides with questions for your faculty reviewers and add them to your slide deck.

  • The instructor might send you some extra comments and feedback on your presentation today.
  • Assess and incorporate peer and instructor feedback and streamline your presentation.
  • Iterate with your faculty advisor.
  • Practice goes a long way!

Be sure to review the faculty review materials at the top of the page when preparing your presentation.


2. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Prepare for Q&A

Due when? We will practice answering questions after your presentation next class on Tuesday 2/17.

Instructions

Next week, weโ€™ll practice answering questions a bit more.

  1. Review this presentation about best practices to answer questions.

  2. Identify 4 - 5 bins that you expect faculty review questions to fall into (e.g. model selection, data management, statistical analyses). Write them down.

  3. Decide who would be most appropriate to respond to questions in each bin.

  4. Write down 2 - 3 questions in each bin that you might expect (and/or are nervous of getting) during your faculty review.

  5. Prepare any extra slides you might need during your Q&A.

  6. Designate a note taker for the Q&A who can keep track of the questions, feedback, or comments you got for reviewing later.


3. ๐Ÿ“ Update DIP

Instructions

Once you receive feedback from your advisor:

  • discuss feedback with your team
  • start working on updating your draft
  • contact advisors or clients for clarification and share suggestions. Take the initiative suggsting solutions or approaches and reply to comments within the document as needed. Remember to always do your research and discuss with your team first!


4. ๐Ÿค” Have a mid-quarter check-in with team

Due when? Add this item to the agenda for your next team meeting.

Instructions

Context: your Team Management Plan + DIP draft submissions + flashtalks + practice presentation, and the feedback you received.

Discuss what went well and and what could be better:

  • โœจHow will your team improve?โœจ
  • Is your team delivering high-quality, timely work?
  • Do you need to re-read the capstone guidelines?
  • Should you seek more feedback or guidance from your client/advisor?
  • Should you be more proactive in proposing solutions or product details?
  • Does your team need to share work earlier so everyone can revise?
  • Do you need to establish new expectations or ground rules in your Team Management Plan?

The class will be divided in two blocks from 1:00 to 2:30 and from 2:30 to 4:00. Each team will present and provide feedback to other teams as follows:

Your theam should work on their project outside of their โ€œpresentation blockโ€. The following rooms are reserved for you so you have a dedicated workspace during our usual class time. Youโ€™re welcome to use other places to work.
